FF. Can you explain what pro jumping is and how it started as a sport. IJ. Pro Jumping is the use of spring loaded stilts that are attached to your feet to perform a variety of different tricks, grabs and acrobatics. The invention was based on what people in the Paralympics were using on their legs and since then it has grown into what it is today, there are currently no competitions and they are only used for recreational purposes, but we hope to change that in the future. FF. As a pro jumper you must have always been good at gymnastics, from what age did you start IJ. I started from about 16, I didn’t choose gymnastics when I was younger as I was too busy with other sports. Since getting into Free Running and Parkour I have taken more interest in gymnastics and seem to have been picking it up pretty fast. FF. What level did you get to in your gymnastics and did you know that this was some thing you wanted to do as a job. IJ. I only ever went to gymnastics classes, never at any competition level, I was only in it for the fun! I never thought I would end up doing one of my hobbies as a job. Just as the demand for our skills grew I realised that we could make a job out of it. FF. When did you make the transition from land gymnastics to pro jumping. IJ. It was about two years ago when I saw someone with a pair of Pro Jumps, I had a quick go on their set and bought some of my own straight away because they were so much fun! FF. when you started at pro jumping did you find it hard or was it simple to convert your skills to the pro jumpers. IJ. I found that because of my background in gymnastics and parkour I was able to quickly adapt those skills on to my Pro Jumps. FF. What would you say your best trick is IJ. My best trick is probably continuous backflips one after the other. This usually gets the audience cheering! FF. How long dose it take you to learn new moves. IJ. Some moves you can learn in one gym session, others take a lot longer, but it can all vary depending on what you are trying to learn! FF. What injuries have you picked up along the way. IJ. I get asked this a lot and fortunately I have never broken a bone, I have only ever got a few bruises and grazes from falling. I have been lucky so far. FF. Tell us what jobs you have done using your pro jump sills IJ. I have been on the Guinness World Records show on Sky One, ITV’s For One Night Only, Cola Coa advert in Spain. However we do not only do big TV shows I also work at local night clubs providing entertainment for peoples nights out. FF. How often do you train, and how do you train. IJ. I train twice a week, once in the gym without my Pro Jumps. Whenever I learn a new trick on Pro Jumps I learn it without them on first which then makes it easier to apply when I do have them on. FF. Were do you hope to go with your pro jumping in the future IJ. At the moment we have done all sorts of shows around the world and are just getting into doing workshops for kids around our area. I want to be able to bring this sport to people all over the UK providing taster sessions and on going workshops on a regular basis.
