Gethin Jones Interview
Print E-mail

Naomi caught up with presenter and face of Holland and Barrett Gethin Jones to find out how he stays in shape, and the pressures of being in the spot light.

FF: Appearing on Strictly Come Dancing must have been great for keeping fit. Do you still dance?

GJ: I lost a stone and a half over 3 months. My dance partner wouldn't let me do any weight training, so the weight was just falling off me! Amazing for fitness, felt very sharp. Dance occasionally on my own in the corner of the room, when no one is watching ;-)

FF: How was it working on “Gethin Jones, Danger Hunters” Did you ever find the ultimate thrill?

GJ: I found quite a few! Being buried in an avalanche - you have to spit, and whichever way your spit goes, you start digging the opposite way to survive!

FF: How does it feel to be the face of Holland and Barrett? Does this put pressure on you to stay healthy?

GJ: Not at all, I genuinely used their products 'whey' before they asked me.. Manuka honey is great for a long day in the studio, and vit c and eccinecea are just great for the immune system. When I'm on the run, its good to know the body is being fuelled with the right stuff..

FF: Do you get free nuts?

GJ: Ha, if I ask nicely!

FF: How do you stay in shape?

GJ: Doing whatever I can, when I can. I love sports like rugby, foot and tennis, but not always possible. I've been known to bicep curl the Tesco's shopping on the way home.Use tripods as weights when away filming.. it all gets the heart rate up! I love cycling too...

FF: Are you strict with your diet?

GJ: Not religious with it. I eat lots and train lots. If its for something specific like Soccer Aid recently, I ate well, and felt really good. I know thats important from my rugby days.

FF: Is rugby still a part of your life?

GJ: Only watching. I miss team sport massively… I play a bit of touch now and then...

FF: Is it important for a partner to stay in shape?

GJ: You'd have to ask the partner!! Sure it helps.. my girlfriend and I go running when we can.. Its always more fun training with someone else, rather than on your own.

FF: Does being a celebrity put pressure on you to stay in shape?

GJ: Not really, I've tried to stay in shape all my life, but have only been on the telly for 8 years!

FF: You’ve had tremendous success as a TV presenter. What advice would you give to anyone who wants to get involved in the industry?

GJ: It's a strange old industry. Theres no course, its all down to experience and having a profile. I would say, have a crack, be yourself and work hard, pretty standard really. Anyone can stand in front of a camera and talk, but not everyone can do it well!

Your current web browser must be updated to version 7 of Internet Explorer (IE7) to take advantage of all of this websites capabilities.

Why should I upgrade to Internet Explorer 7? Microsoft has redesigned Internet Explorer from the ground up, with better security, new capabilities, and a whole new interface. Many changes resulted from the feedback of millions of users who tested prerelease versions of the new browser. The most compelling reason to upgrade is the improved security. The Internet of today is not the Internet of five years ago. There are dangers that simply didn't exist back in 2001, when Internet Explorer 6 was released to the world. Internet Explorer 7 makes surfing the web fundamentally safer by offering greater protection against viruses, spyware, and other online risks.
