www.leobancroft.com Leo Bancroft tells us about the AW10 biggest trends in hair, and how to keep your hair bang on season.
As fashion changes for the AW10 season, so do the biggest trends in hair. Don’t be left in the shade, get to know the looks to be seen in and be seen in them now. Grunge glam is a key look for the coming season and can be worn and adapted in many ways. You can tame it down for day and dress it up for night. The most important factor is that there are no set rules. Hair should look unpolished and slightly messy, taking the bed head look to the extreme. The glamour factor comes in the form of shine. Hair still needs to be in good condition and the look is a combination of rough and glossy. Yes, you can still use hair powders to slightly mattify, but on the whole, you want to look cool, not as though you actually have neglected your hair… The stained red lips, dark nails and sultry smoky eyes seen on the runway are the perfect accessories for this look.
The top knot is around to stay and this season will be updated with a new twist – the plait. Sleek and smooth or rough and messy, pull your hair into a high ponytail and plait the pony. Tease the plait gently to muss it up a little, then loosely wrap the plait around into a bun and secure with hairpins. If you are feeling adventurous, try plaiting small sections of the pony so you end up with lots of little plaits, then arrange these into a bun and pin into place. This adds even more detail to the look.
The side parting is back. Sweep hair to the side and use a combination of textures to create a multi textured look. Sleek, smooth fringes coupled wavy locks that are again, not too polished will add interest to your style.
Ponytails are a playful style but they can be chic and sexy too. Think Gossip Girl star Blake Lively, she wears a slightly messy ponytail with ease and still manages to look red carpet ready. Ideally wear your ponytail on day-old hair as freshly washed hair can be too soft. Use a soft bristle brush to sweep hair up and secure with a covered band. Don’t fret about loose strands or making it perfect, messiness is part of the appeal. Apply a little Shu Uemura Art of Hair Kaze Wave to your ponytail and gently tease with your fingers to create texture. This is enriched with acacia gum to provide light hold and curl definition – the perfect finishing touch.”
