Lina Cameron interview
Written by Naomi Rose    Print E-mail

Lina Cameron is an amazing make-up artist who is renowned in the industry for her subtle and refined beauty touch, and is a go-to girl for beauty and fashion industry events. However Lina believes that every woman can feel like a goddess with a few simple tools and application techniques. We asked Lina for some top tips to share with our readers.

FF: What is the best make up advice you were ever given?
LC: To use a sunscreen every day rain, hail or shine under you make-up. Either a SPF 45 or 50. It is the singular best anti-aging habit you can get into. Prevention is always better than cure and protective your skin from the elements is essential I love Linda Meredith SPF 45 it is so light in texture, smells amazing and the perfect base for make-up.

FF: Whats the one item in your makeup case you can't live without?
LC: Bobbi Brown Foundation Sticks. They give a flawless complexion without a cakey feel. It is hard to find foundation that offers the coverage without the thick look, Bobbi Brown’s foundation sticks are fabulous for this. Best of all they work on all of my clients no matter what the skin tone, type or age.

FF: What advice can you given to women who are struggling to get there makeup looking flawless?
LC: Make sure the skin is very well exfoliated. This is the key to a flawless make-up look, if skin is exfoliated well, the make-up will glow off the face and give a gorgeous luminous look. My favourite tip to share is using bi-carb soda as an exfoliator. It is the best I have ever used, natural, cheap and most people have one lurking around their kitchen cupboards!

FF: We are excited to hear that your launching your own makeup brand, what are we to expect with this?
LC: "Simplicity, organization and education" are the basis of Lina Cameron's philosophy and vision for the palette range. The aim is via the workbook that women will look longer for using the palette.

Points of difference:

1. Miniatures. Sizes of the product is according to their usage. For example eyeshadow for upper eyelid is 50% bigger, compared to the eyeliner eyeshadow.

2. All products are luxury, highly pigmented ect. No unwanted products, the customer has control in what she selects for her individual palette so the experience and product is bespoke, as the base will be magnetic. At the same time there will be colour combinations selected by me which will be chosen based on eye colour, eye shape and skin tones.

3. Palette will have a few trays 2-3 levels, which are detachable and the customer has the choice to buy what they need.
a) Eyes and eyebrows, mascara, eye pencil and eyebase.
b) face and brushes, tweezers.
c) skinprep and foundation. I propose to make holes so that women could poor in the foundation or cream(liquids).

Brushes are professionally constructed and crafted by hand not mashine cut.

Inspiration for the shape of the palette is taken from the IPhone. I propose to make the case from materials than a low grade, thin plastic, as the palette should be strong and durable with a fashion edge. We could also make a velvet case/travel bag for the palette.
The Palette will have a mirror and a specific place for the tutorial guide (Step by step instruction how to apply the products) in the outer casing of the palette.

Lina Cameron says: "Beauty is hidden in the details", so let every woman learn to release and discover hers.

It is all about applying the make-up in the correct places.

There is no celebrity expert who concentrates specifically on the eyes. Eyes are the window to the soul. We communicate though the eyes, we express ourselves with our eyes and eyes are the one area where most women fail at make-up application. When highlighted correctly eyes can elevate a woman's attractiveness hugely hence why I want the focus on the tutorial guide to be around eyes.

FF: Can you give us 5 top tips with make up?
LC: a) Have your eyebrows professionally shaped once a month. Shavata at The Urban Retreat in Harrods is the best eyebrow shaper I have ever seen. Well groomed eyebrows are so important at lifting the face, providing definition and giving the right framework for make-up application.
b) By dotting eyeliner in-between the roots of the lashes gives your eyes wonderful definition. I suggest trying Laura Mercier’s "Black Ebony" applied with Laura Mercier’s "Flat eyeliner" brush for a professional finish.
c) For an instant pick me up dab a cream blush on the apple of the cheeks I love Bobbi Brown’s Pout Rouge in "Caloypso Coral".
d) Keep pencils sharp and clean, there is nothing worse than getting caught with a blunt pencil and not a sharpener in sight!
f) Spring clean not only your make-up collection but also your look every three months. Throw away old products especially mascaras that may be harbouring bacteria. Evaluate your make-up habits, do you purchase on a whim? What is it you are actually using? Are you using products that are right for you? Are you stuck in a rut? Women every day tell me they don’t know how to update their look, the best investment they can make is to book a make-up tutorial and learn how they can best enhance their natural beauty.

FF: Are you into fitness?
LC: I have slipped out of my fitness routine at the moment but I hope to be back to it soon.

FF: What is you daily skin regime like?
LC: I cleanse my skin with Eve Lom cleanser morning and evening. I always apply the SPF 45 Sunscreen from Linda Meredith. I love this as it feels so light on the skin.

FF: What is your greatest achievement?
LC: Turning my passion for make-up into a full time job and becoming a celebrity make-up artist.

FF: Who is your favourite cosmetic brand at the moment?
LC: By Terry. So innovative!

FF: Have you ever had any major makeup mistakes?
LC: Applying foundation on the eyelids never works, as it is the most oily and hot part of the face. I have learned now that Laura Mercier "Eye Basics" "Wheat" is suitable for almost any skin colour and evens out the eyelid and keeps eyes hadow in place all day long. Amazing!!
